…Worries over proliferation, stockpiling of weapons President Muhammadu Buhari has met with the security chiefs and called for concerted efforts of all security agencies to ensure that the 2019 general election is hitch free. The President gave the charge on Thursday during the National Security Council held at the State House, Abuja. He expressed concerned on the areas of post- election violence, noting that desperate politicians may whip up ethno- religious sentiments to create security situation in the country. The council said that there was an attempt to put pressure on electoral body by some notable personalities through demonstrations which was brought under control by combined efforts of security agencies to avoid been hijacked by hoodlums and armed bandits. “Also of concern is the proliferation and stockpiling of weapons by some disgruntled elements with a desire to take laws into their hands at the slightest opportunity,” the President said. Ekiti treasurer shot dead at sunset

•Party mourns The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has been thrown into mourning, following the killing of the Treasurer, Mr. Moses Adeoye, on Wednesday night. He was reportedly shot dead in his home in Otun-Ekiti, the headquarters of Moba Local Government, when having supper. The gunmen were said to have invaded Adeoye’s home about 9pm and shot the victim. He was killed a few hours after returning to Otun-Ekiti after being part of the town hall meetings held by Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti North and Ekiti South senatorial districts. Adeoye was the APC chairman in his local government before he became the treasurer at the state congress in September. Police spokesman Caleb Ikechukwu said the command had begun investigation. INEC chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu: Parties rush to meet deadline for submission of candidates list for presidential and National assembly elections Nigeria’s  political parties on Thursday resorted to last minute rush to beat the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) deadline for the submission of list of candidates for the 2019 general elections. According to INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, only eight parties submitted submitted their nominations for Presidential and National Assembly out of 89 political parties by Tuesday, 16 October. The others appeared to have settled to do so at the last minute. INEC had scheduled the submission of candidates’ names for the Presidential and National Assembly between Oct. 10 and Oct. 18, and deadline for the Governorship and State Assemblies election on Nov. 2. •Ex-governor asks for mattress Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose is telling the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives all he knows about the N4.685 billion allegedly withdrawn from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA). Fayose spoke yesterday after 72 hours in detention. He admitted knowing a former Minister of State (Defence) Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro, who ferried N1.299billion slush funds to him in a chartered jet. He also said he has links with Abiodun Agbele, who allegedly bought six choice properties for him in Lagos and Abuja. But the ex-governor added  drama to his grilling when he wrote the EFCC to demand an additional mattress in his cell. He said sleeping on two mattresses will be more comfortable for him. The EFCC was looking into his request as at the time of filing this report. The governor, who had vowed not to speak, made a U-Turn,  The Nation  learnt.
